lismore caste (co. waterford)
Creation of a multi-purpose gallery space within the 19th century West Wing of Lismore Castle.
JCA provided a successful solution to a project which involved managing the aspirations of the client with the restrictive nature of the building due to its recorded monument and protected structure status.
A gallery was created for the display of contemporary art following extensive consultation with the Dept of the Environment and Waterford County Council and carried out under a planning change of use, from domestic use to a place of assembly, complying with all access and fire safety requirements which were carried out in a manner which did not affect the special historic character of the protected structure.

michael collins' house (co. cork)
JCA has been involved in this project since the client’s acquisition of the house and through all stages culminating in the conversion of the building to a public museum.
The house was restored and displays the story of 19th century nationalism as told in the context of the life of Michael Collins. A new contemporary museum entrance has been designed in an adjoining foyer which contrasts with the faithful restoration of the house and its interior and all issues relating to the conversion of a historic house in to a public museum have had to be resolved, including providing full accessibility to the building. JCA worked closely with the museum designer throughout the process.

lifetime lab (cork city)
The Lifetime Lab is located within the buildings of the former Cork City Waterworks, a complex of industrial buildings of high architectural and archaeological significance.
JCA acted as conservation architects for the repair and reuse of these buildings, identifying suitable reuses for the buildings which were most adaptable, while retaining and repairing the surviving plant to the main steam house as a museum and visitor attraction.
The end result of the extensive work program at the Waterworks site is the conservation and adaptation of four historic structures, and the upgrading of a neglected site to a sustainable new use providing equal access throughout.

nano nagle place (cork city)
JCA have individually assessed each building on this complex historic site and identified appropriate future uses
for all areas in accordance with the client’s brief and with respect to the special significance of each structure.
The varying proposed uses of private residential quarters, working offices and publicly assessable heritage and archive
buildings, to include the garden area, have been successfully integrated without loss of the special architectural
character of the site. Full access has been provided to all areas of the site despite the difficult topography and
without compromising the sensitive garden and cemetery areas. A new multiple storey building for the western apex of the site was designed by JCA and was included in the recently granted planning application.
